Alan had a military summons in 1242 to attend the King into France, a nd in ten years had the whole of County of Cheshire and all North Wales pl aced under his government. In 45th of Henry III, 1261, he obtained a chart er for a weekly market at Ashby La Zouche in Leicestershire, and for two f airs in the year at Swavesley. About this time he was made Justice itinera nt for Counties Southampton, Buckinghamshire and Northampton and Ward en of all the King's forests south of the Trent and Sheriff of Northampto n. Upon the arbitration made by Louis, King of France, between Henry III a nd the barons, he was made one of the sureties on behalf of the King. In t hree years he was constituted Constable of the Tower of London and Govern or of the Castle of Northampton. Sir Alan la Zouche was violently assault ed in Westminster Hall in 1268 by John, Earl of Warren and Surrey, up on a dispute between them regarding some landed property, and with his s on Roger, who happened to be with him, was severely wounded. He married El ena, daughter and heir of Roger de Quincey, Earl of Winchester, and his wi fe Helena, daughter of Alan MacDonald and his wife, Margaret of Scotlan d, daughter of Prince David of Scotland, son of Prince Henry of Scotland a nd Ada de Warren, son of King David of Scotland and Maud, Countess of Hunt ington and Northumberland, son of Malcolm Conmore, King of Scotland, and M argaret, heiress of the Saxon Line. Roger de Quincey was son of Saire de Q uincey, Surety for the Magna Charta, and his wife, Margaret de Bellomon t, daughter of Robert de Bellomont and Isabel de Vermandois, daughter of H ugh the Great Crusader, son of Henry I, King of France.
